The Zonta Club of Melbourne on Yarra is a vibrant and sociable group of volunteers who work together to empower women at a local and global level to fulfil their potential through service and advocacy.
The club meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7 pm. Our main venue is Amora Riverwalk Hotel in Bridge Road, Richmond where we have a one course meal, tea and coffee for $36. Our Award nights in March and August will be at a higher cost – to be advised. However, in June, July, September and October we vary our venue. Zoom attendance can also be arranged. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information regarding venues.
Club members also join one of our four club committees – Service & Advocacy, Program & Public Relations, Membership, and Fundraising.
Members undertake fundraising, advocacy and hands on service roles to further the objectives of Zonta International, making a difference at a global and local level.
Some examples of our service and advocacy projects are:

Local Service Projects
Our club’s 2021 Local Service Project award was awarded to Shakti Australia .
The award is for local projects that provide services to women.
Each year our club funds a project that provides services to local women. In this way we are working locally, at a District level as well as globally.
Applications for 2022 will be open soon.
One of our Club’s major annual service projects is assembling birthing kits to be sent to a developing country. Birthing kits providing a clean and safe birthing environment for women in developing countries to reduce the incidence of infant and maternal morbidity and mortality.
Every day, around 830 women die of complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. An estimated 303,000 women die annually in childbirth, many from preventable infections. Most women we assist for reasons of isolation, cultural choice or poor transport have little or no assistance during childbirth. By providing a clean birthing kit these mothers have the resources to reduce infection.
Birthing kits cost as little as $5 each.
For information on our next birthing kit assembly event, see our Events page.
Further information about birthing kits is available from the Birthing Kit Foundation Australia.
Zonta Breast Care Cushions
The Zonta Breast Care Cushions provide comfort to women (and men) in the post-operative phase of breast surgery. Our club holds sewing bees to make the cushion, which are supplied to hospitals around Melbourne and distributed by Breast Care Nurses.
The feedback received from recipients has been positive, with one woman noting that receiving the cushion was a turning point for her in helping to change her outlook and feel more positive.
