Founded in 1997, Business in the Pennisula (formally known as Pyrmont Ultimo Chamber of Commerce: PUCC) aims to create a thriving, sustainable business community in the precinct. The Chamber’s vision is simple: make Pyrmont Ultimo a place where people love to eat, work, learn, explore, shop, and transact business.
The BUP advocates sustainable economic growth, engaging with all levels of government, offering support, networking opportunities, access to information, and input into government policymaking.
The Chamber strives to increase awareness of Pyrmont Ultimo’s small, medium, and large businesses, local traders, and educational facilities. By promoting Pyrmont Ultimo and Darling Harbour as a creative business hub and a dining and tourist destination, the BUP aims to enhance overall economic benefits for the precinct.
BUP plays a key role in assisting the local business community in advocating sustainable economic growth. The Chamber engages with all levels of government in promoting the local area and is active in consultation with other stakeholders. As one of the most influential business groups in Sydney, BUP includes member representatives from media and educational facilities, restaurants, international hotels, accommodation, and professional services.
With strong connections with the City of Sydney council and other levels of government, the BUP makes representations on behalf of members to advance their interests in promoting and maintaining business growth in the area. From public domain improvements to business opportunities; tourism promotion to commerce development; city planning to cultural enhancement, the Chamber is a strong representative of the local business community.
BUP represents the interests of its members by:
- Providing inspirational leadership for the business community;
- Providing opportunities to promote commerce on the peninsula;
- Championing local business opportunities;
- Advocating on issues that strengthen the local business environment;
- Championing the workplace of choice for employees; and
- Supporting and enhancing the interests of the local community.
The Chamber is a completely independent not-for-profit organisation that cooperates readily with local government and other bodies to promote and safeguard the interests of the Pyrmont Ultimo business community and local residents.
We welcome all businesses, large and small, as members, as well as individual operators who aim to enhance their own business opportunities and who recognize the value of working collectively through BUP to create an optimal quality of life for the local community as a whole.
Our monthly networking evenings and social events, usually hosted in rotation by BUP members and featuring a topical guest speaker, offer an ideal platform for meeting, discussing, and promoting business services and products.
Our Executive Committee consists of a team of hardworking volunteers who want to ensure that BUP is a creative and dynamic business force, that is well-structured and creates plenty of events, programs, services, and networking opportunities for our members. Our committee also ensures annual government funding is received and disbursed back into the business community. We work hand in hand with local organisations and other chambers and welcome new members.
