A volunteer welfare organisation focused on improving thge lives of seafarers in the Port of Melbourne. Our aim is: 1. To protect and improve the welfare of seafarers. To minimise costs, shipping companies typically hire crew members from some of the poorest countries. People who will work in extremely difficult conditions out of economic necessity. Their jobs typically require them to be away from home from home seven to 12 months of the year at a time, working long hours for poor pay in sometimes dangerous conditions. 2. Minimise self harm amongst seafarers who have one of the highest suicide rates of allprofessions. 3. To help identify and eliminate modern slavery in the shipping industry.
