Dubbo South Public School – 2026 Artist in Residence Program
The Creative Arts Team began 2026 with a clear vision: to ignite passion, nurture talent and shape the creative skills of Dubbo South Public School students. From this vision, the inaugural Artist in Residence Program was created, connecting students with exceptional local professional artists and musicians who have been generously sharing their expertise, experiences and creative journeys.
A year of creative growth
Throughout Weeks 8 and 9 of Term 2, our three visual artists, Vicki Aland (Stage 1), Olivia Tisdell (Stage 2) and Susy Yaghjian (Stage 3) returned to DSPS to lead immersive, full-day workshops for 24 High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) students from Years 1 to 6. These sessions encouraged experimentation, artistic risk-taking and deep creative thinking, leaving a lasting impact on students’ confidence, skills and appreciation of visual arts.
Students also witnessed the artists creating their own residency pieces on site, gaining rare insight into professional artistic practice and the evolution of a work from concept to completion.
Our music program flourished alongside the visual arts program. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in singing sessions with Paul Young, CEO of the Macquarie Conservatorium, an accomplished pianist and musical director. High-potential students engaged in advanced music groups, learning to harmonise, rehearse and perform with growing confidence, musicality and resilience.
Celebrating Creativity – 2026 Artist in Residence Showcase
This year’s Artist in Residence Showcase, will be held on Monday 7 September 2026 from 2:00–3:00pm. The Showcase will celebrate creativity, connection and achievement across the program. The event will feature:
Raffle – supporting the 2027 program
We are delighted to raffle the artists’ residency artworks, all original pieces created on site during their time at our school. These works represent a unique collaboration, story and connection between our students and the talented artists who have shared their skills, passion and creativity with us.
The DSPS P&C is proudly facilitating the raffle, with all funds contributing directly to the 2027 Artist in Residence Program, helping us continue and expand these inspiring opportunities.
“Being part of the Artist in Residence program at Dubbo South Public School has been such a rewarding experience so far. It’s inspiring to see the creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm in the students – and I feel honoured with the opportunity to develop during this time as an artist.” Olivia Tisdell, Dubbo South Public School Artist in Residence
